Inu Jinja is one of the most unique shrines in Nagoya—its name means “Dog Shrine,” and it is strongly associated with safe childbirth because dogs in Japanese tradition are seen as symbols of easy and healthy delivery.

Spotlight: The Kodakara (Child-Blessing) Shrine
Inu Jinja is especially famous for its Kodakara Shrine, which offers blessings for:
- Conception
- Healthy pregnancy
- Safe delivery
- Family prosperity
Couples hoping for children often visit during hatsumode, leaving ema (wooden prayer plaques) filled with wishes for growing families. It’s a warm, emotional, and deeply meaningful space, especially around the New Year.

I deeply recomend to visit Inu shrine if you want to start a family! Because I had been undergoing fertility treatment and hadn’t been able to conceive for seven years, but I found out I was pregnant in the year I visited this shrine for my New Year’s visit. It may have been a coincidence, but I truly felt its blessings! And these puppies are just so adorable!
